Each congregation now has a prayer book, in which names of those for whom we offer prayer during the service may be written. There have been some questions about how this is done. Because of legal changes and privacy laws, no information about any person can be given without that person’s consent. So if there is a name, and a reason written beside it – the minister cannot legally share any information other than the name. Current privacy laws prohibit the sharing of any personal information without permission – and some individuals do no want information shared. So you can put anyone’s name in the book, but also try to obtain permission and then perhaps write beside the name a ‘P’, so that we know permission is granted. Thank you.
