Funeral Policy – Keswick-Ravenshoe Pastoral Charge

Please Note: Any financial arrangements made with a funeral director will override fees in this policy but service details must be discussed with the Minister and Director of Music.

Luncheons: Luncheons to be held at the church may be discussed with the United Church Women (UCW).
**Please note that Canada Revenue Services no longer allows congregations to have different fees for members and non-members. Sanctuary rental fees for longtime active members may be waived at the discretion of the Board in discussion with the minister. Fees for minister, organist or caretaker may be waived at the discretion of those individuals.
Under normal circumstances, the incumbent minister takes all funeral services. However there are times when a family might wish a retired clergy or previous minister to take a service. Prior consent must be given by the incumbent minister in the pastoral charge, and the Board of that congregation. Retired clergy ‘inactive’ must have their status returned to active before conducting any services. In the case where there is no incumbent, the approval of the Board for that congregation is necessary. (The Manual 2013 I. 2.5.3 and 2.5.4) The exception is the Volunteer Associate Minister, in a covenanted relationship with the pastoral charge.
The same applies if you wish to have another musician, or extra musicians in services. This needs to be established in consultation with the Director of Music in Keswick United Church or Ravenshoe United Church.

Fees paid later than two weeks before wedding will be accepted only in cash.
Marriage Preparation: A meeting with the minister and a rehearsal are provided. Marriage preparation counselling is available with the minister.
Music: The church’s Director of Music will be available to play for the wedding service. Alternate arrangements must be discussed with the Director of Music.
Marriage License: The marriage license must be purchased no earlier than three months prior to the wedding, and no later than three days prior to the wedding.. The license should be purchased and brought to the minister at least two weeks prior to the wedding.
* No confetti may be thrown in the church building or grounds.
Flowers and decorations are your responsibility. However, arrangements for flowers and decorations should be made with the office in advance.
If you would like to book a date for a wedding at Keswick United Church, please complete this form and return it, along with a non-refundable deposit for $200.00, cheques payable to “Keswick UC / Wedding”
If you would like to see the church and/or meet the minister before making the deposit, please feel welcome to join us for worship on Sunday mornings or on a day when the minister is on the premises. This can be ascertained by calling the church office. Service time is 11:15 am.

Rental fees for long-term active members can be waived by the incumbent minister in consultation with the Board. Individual fees can be waived at the discretion of the individuals concerned.

Prior consent must be given by the incumbent minister in the pastoral charge, and the Board of that congregation. Retired clergy ‘inactive’ must have their status returned to active in order to be able to conduct any service. Retired clergy and those from outside the Pastoral Charge may not conduct weddings without the prior consent of the minister and the Board, Toronto Conference, and must obtain a licence from the Government of Ontario specifically for that wedding. In the case where there is no incumbent, the approval of the Board for that congregation is necessary. (The Manual 2013 I. 2.5.3 and 2.5.4) Volunteer Associate Ministers are exempt from this requirement.
