Music Director

Stephen Riches, B.Mus, B.Ed, ARCT

Stephen Riches has joined Keswick United Church effective July 1, 2019, as our Music Director.

Steven is an experience teacher, pianist, conductor, vocal coach, adjudicator, arranger and composer.   He holds Bachelor of Music and Education degrees from the University of Toronto as well as an ARCT diploma in piano performance.

In 1977, he was winner of Canada’s elite Dr. Heinz |Unger conducting competition.  A frequent performer as a piano soloist and/pr conductor with a number of orchestras in Ontario, Stephen has also directed numerous Broadway shows and operetta productions, and performed as a guest for a variety of charitable events.

One of his projects was the founding of the Pickering Philharmonic Orchestra in 1993, which later became the Festival Players Philharmonic Society.  for more than a decade, a Music Director and Conductor, he provided many dozens of memorable concerts for local Durham communities.

More recently, as the author of award-winning and best-selling books on music education, Stephen has become in demand as a speaker, frequently providing workshops and seminars on a variety of topics related to his system in general and the keys to development of lifetime music skills in particular.

He also provides leadership in Christian music ministries including training and developing contemporary praise and worship teams.

Through his unique and transformational system of music education, Stephen has been implementing the successful strategies contained in his books to the great benefit of his student at Alexander’s Music Studio.
